I’d love to take you to discover Lecce, one of Puglia’s most beautiful and charming cities, best known as the “Florence of Southern Italy”. Lecce, is a place where art, gastronomy, architecture, culture, and anything you can image is related to “Beauty”. So, we meet in the heart of Lecce, Piazza Sant’Oronzo, where we first enjoy a traditional breakfast with pastries and coffee, served alfresco at a locals’ café “Alvino”. Then our walking tour can begin. We will visit churches, shops, historic sights and fascinating secret corners of the downtown. Especially, we will stroll through the amazing “streets of Baroque & Renaissance”, being struck by the intensity of the warm pale yellow typical of this region and the arabesque embroidery of baroque art. In an extraordinary skillful interplay of light and shade, you will be fascinated by the garlands on a well, the leaves on a capitol, the wings of a cherub. Venturing into the narrow winding streets, we will find the enchanting Church of Santa Croce, the majestic Seminary and Palazzo Marrese, the magnificent Piazza Duomo with its wonderful atmosphere. Before continuing our “passeggiata”, we will sit down and relax at one typical cafè, run by a friendly family. Then our walking tour in Lecce goes on with the showcasing of this day tour, a boozy meeting with the local masters of papier-machè handicraft, famous all over the world for their unique masterpieces. Our tour concludes with a light tasting lunch at a great wine bar, where we sample regional cheeses, meats and other delicacies (optional, price €25/person).
